The Whitney Awards
« on: February 12, 2018, 03:10:54 pm »
In case you don't know, the Whitney Awards are a specific set of writing awards for LDS authors.  The finalists came out today and can be found here: http://whitneyawards.com/2017-finalists/ (sorry the page loads really slow).
One of the cool things about the awards is that anyone can nominate a book, then the 5 books with the most nominations get into the semi-finals, then finals.  The awards are presented at the Whitney awards gala in Provo  at the end of Storymakers Conference (early May).

So if any of you are looking for good reads by LDS authors, or have an LDS author whose book you ADORE, that's a great resource!

This is cool to know, Dyany. With a scarcity of full-service LDS bookstores or other resources where I live, it isn’t always easy to find good LDS writing. Seagull has been gone from Oakland for years & the nearest Deseret is in Sacramento.

You’re right, the page is slow (zzzz), but now I have the link to use anytime.

Whitney Awards for 2020 accept nominations up to 31 Oct.
To be eligible, the book needs to be written by a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, released this year and nominated by 5 people.

If you've read a great book this year, please take a few seconds to nominate the book.

From the Whitney Awards page:

Quote
The Whitneys are an awards program for novels written by authors who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Orson F. Whitney, an early apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, prophesied:

“We will yet have Miltons and Shakespeares of our own. Above all things, we must be original. Our mission is diverse from all others; our literature must also be.”

https://whitneyawards.com/nominate-novel/

You can nominate 4 books!

Please nominate books you like! I know many winners and have read a few of the books and...well, let's just say that bar isn't that high, so don't get discouraged. Just nominate them!

Yeah. Have to admit I am disappointed but it was still quite the honor for him to be a finalist. Thank you, Jana, for your support!
