OK, that makes it clearer. The guest house was probably their planned lodging all along while they were performing there. & they got stuck when the travel bans came down. They'll have a great story to tell their own kids some day!

I really don't want to laugh at this story, but I challenge anyone else not to. It would be rude to laugh if they were seriously hurt, but it sounds like they'll live, & they'll probably milk this experience as long as they live. 🤣

Public toilets with transparent walls from...where else...Japan. (Actually it's a really cool idea--they turn opaque when occupied.)

transparent loos on the Museum plain in Amsterdam have been there for years.  You can imagine the consternation  two senior sisters experienced the first time.  I t was hilarious.

I saw a story about those, & wondered how many people would fully trust the capability of becoming opaque. Can it fail, for instance stop working in the middle of a "visit"?  :o

There would need to be something like a body heat sensor, not just a door lock sensor, to turn the walls opaque. I'm sure the designers have already thought about the frat boy pranks of defeating the sensor so that new pledges have to take care of business while fully visible to the outside world.

Yeah, I figured it would have to be designed well to thwart pranksters, because we know there would be pranksters. A heat sensor hadn't come to mind. I did think about something activated by the door lock, maybe electrical, or a photoelectric, ultra-sonic, or motion detector. What about something to detect a person's weight on the floor?

A good feature would be a timer, to keep people from camping out all day. In some cities, public toilets have the locks on timers, so they open automatically after 15 minutes. For these, the timer could be set so the opaqueness is deactivated after a set time. Wouldn't that be fun?  ;D

We stayed in a hotel that had transparent glass for the toilet walls. They did NOT turn translucent. There was no switch or other mechanism to turn them to translucent. It was just the husband and I with no visitors, thankfully. But still, it's a really really really bad design.

If there's a way to turn the walls translucent, fine. Just make sure it works.

I just thought of the perfect name for the see-through toilets:

LOOKY-LOO's.  😲  🤣

For those unfamiliar with U.S. slang, a looky-loo is a gawker, someone who can't help but stare at accidents, who goes to disasters out of morbid curiosity. Folks in the generation before me called them rubber-neckers.

And for the latest in Weird News - these parrots in a British zoo had to be separated because of their scandalous talk. 🦜 They were all donated by owners & put together after completing quarantine, & I guess they picked up each other's bad habits. 🤣

The see-through toilet walls go opaque when they are in use. It's a way to avoid the awkward "is that bathroom in use or is the door just closed?" question.

Of course, since I learned that I could say, "Come back with a warrant!" when people knock on the bathroom door when I'm in there, I find that interaction far more tolerable. ;)

If only we're brave enough to be it

Not all of them, Dyany. We've stayed in hotels with see-through walls that did NOT go opaque when the bathroom was in use, nor was there any switch to make the walls go opaque. It was just the husband and I, so it was okay, but... No.

ah, yes, but in general those are in private suites, are they not? I know those are kind of public toilets, but I was thinking of the REALLY public toilets.
