DUNE!
« on: November 02, 2021, 12:49:55 am »
Tonight, I saw it on the big screen. Tomorrow, I'm changing my career to Ornithopter pilot!

I read the first book when I was in eighth grade. I barely made it through, and had zero interest in any following books from the series. I watched the really really bad 1984 film. I was done with Dune.

And then I saw this film. Incredible. The only thing I don't like is that I have to wait two years for part 2 to be released.

I'm stoked at the positive reviews flowing in from all over the world.  This movie started turning a profit even before it's US release.  We're going to see it soon.

I think I read Dune in my last year of elementary school.  Been reading all the books ever since.  I remember in college, splitting time between reading scriptures, and a book of Frank Herbert's wisdom and opinions, and thinking how well they jived together.  I was let down by movie after movie after miniseries.  Let down by some of the Kevin Anderson/Brian Herbert books.  Had my hopes up for this movie in 2019, then COVID put it on hold for 18 months.  I've had to spend my time with the smacktalking Dune meme FB groups, as we all hope for the best.  Got my fingers crossed!

The movie, and the one after that, both must do well, so the franchise will kick off, and eventually we can see Alia.
What-about-ism is pointless. I like to think most people's responses to such arguments would be, "Yup. That person, who happened to wear the same political jersey I do/did, was totally wrong on that, too."

I am glad to hear this film is so much better.  The only decent thing to come out of the first Dune was Jean Luc Picard.  :)

The world and modern fandom is not prepared for Dune Messiah. Sure hope they can find a way to make it.

And then we're steps closer to finally getting a big screen realization of Leto II, which, again, the general public is simply not prepared for.

N3urotypical, It's been a very long time since I read Dune or any of the sequels. In the picture, what is coming out of Alia's head?

I'm glad to hear reviews from Nauvoodles. I've wanted to see it, yet at the same time I've been afraid to see it. The two movies and miniseries were so, so bad. If my Nauvoodle friends say it's worth seeing, then I'll probably go see it!

Nothing in particular, just the artist's depiction of whatever hair-clippy-things Arrakis native girls would wear.   The REAL question is "What's coming out of her eyes?", with the answer being "The life experience of millions of ancestors, awakened while still in the womb, and the beginnings of abomination!"

Maybe this one does it better:

N3urotypical, I thought they were hair clippy things, but wasn't sure! I like the second picture as well. :)
