The Saga chapter 2
« on: October 27, 2021, 10:14:52 am »
For ya'll who are not on any social media groups with me, I am sharing my news here.
Exactly 2 years ago, a sharp eyed tech saw a 5mm mass during a routine mammogram.  The process began and after tumor and radiation, we settled into yearly followups.
Last year was perfect.
This October, I showed up for my followup.  After extra screens, echoes, biopsy, my clearly shocked  doc informed us another mass had formed , 7mm, close to the first site.
Dr. Molenkamp went to bat to save the breast.  Unfortunately, the tumour radiation site overlaps the new site and would set up a painful condition I would suffer til I die. If the tumor was in a different quadrant that would be a plus.
Since my biology appears to be cancer prone, my doc offered but did not recommend hormone therapy.
The third and only real option long term is a mastectomy including the sentinel lymph node.
Friday morning we arrive at the hospital.  I will have an injection of radioactive gamma stuff to help track where that node is.  Then surgery. Then overnight in the hospital. If all goes well I come home Saturday. But I could be in the hospital til Sunday.
I have many prayer warriors on my side.  I have had the appropriate blessing and oil.
The Boy comes for the first 10 days to keep me company and make sure I don't get all stupid and bust stitches.
Sweetpea comes the second 10 days to take over Mamawatch especially since Himself is off to Paris for a meeting.
My biggest worry was having to put more on my husband's plate than he already has.  He is sterling but he has a very full agenda at the University.
Luckily the children both happily volunteered to leave their homes to help.
So there you go.
I will not die, but this is lifechanging in spades.

Yes, life changing. I pray for quick healing for your body and your emotions. I'm glad your children are coming. I hope that's a sweet time in the middle of a hard experience.

Weird this virtual ward thing. I do not know you, in the normal sense, I have not even met you. But this saddened me as much as if a member of my own ward had just told me this.

May God bless you with a speedy recovery.
Don't ask me, I only live here.

When I read about your children coming to spend time with you, I thought what great days those will get to be even if the pain is awful.   Happy for that for you.

Oh, dear Jana Lyn, I'm so sorry you're going through this. Your courage inspires me. You move to another country and learn another language. You travel unaccompanied halfway around the world to meet people you know from an online forum. You become "Oma" to boy you only knew for two days. You get up really early, for years, to teach seminary. You serve in multiple callings in small branches because you know the work needs to be done and you know how to do it. What I'm trying to say is this: You've got this. You're brave and you're strong. And we'll be adding our prayers to yours. You've got this.

Ah JanaLynn, you are so blessed to have a supportive husband and children. You are blessed in that their support is given in great love for you. Hubby and I are praying for you and your family, and will continue to do so for as long as the Holy Spirit guides us to do so.

I love you and your sweet family. Don't walk/work/"run" faster than is good for you. Don't push the pain level until you get the go-ahead from your Dr's.

Gentle hugs and fierce love from me.

Oh, noÖ Iím so very sorry to hear this, Jana, glad you have a good family to support you through this challenge. Youíll be in my prayers for a smooth operation, a minimum of pain, & a quick recovery. I wish I could pack up some hugs & send them to you.

What Andrew said: Nauvoo is all of our ward home, & folks here are as much sisters or brothers as the person in the next pew on Sunday. We know each other better than we know some of our RW ward members, & itís a blessing to see how Nauvoodles care about each other. And what Roper said: youíre a brave, resourceful, faithful child of God & youíve got this. Father will be with you to watch over you through this, & we will all be reminding Him often.

Iím putting you on the temple prayer right now.

Good to see you waving on Facebook Jana.   Does that mean the procedure was a success?
What-about-ism is pointless. I like to think most people's responses to such arguments would be, "Yup. That person, who happened to wear the same political jersey I do/did, was totally wrong on that, too."

Yes
All went well. The wound is beautiful.  Barring infection or swelling it should be a clean heal. Very satisfied.
I will be discharged today.
I am so grateful for my prayer warriors and rooting section.
I am humbled by the sacred bubble you all built around me.
Forever thankful.

Glad it went well. It is a common procedure that we do. Common procedures have the benefit of having all the kinks worked out of the process, so they tend to be less hindered by process mistakes and have higher success rates.

It doesn't mean it is not stressful for the individual. I would rather have a common problem than a rare one.
