I live in a village that until recently hosted hundreds of folk escaping tyrants.  I live in a country where we live waaaay to close to tryrants.  Some supposed EU countries are being run today...by tyrants.  Our news is full of horrifying desperate stories of populations under duress from tyrants.
So when I read Mirkwood's  talk, my brain got trapped by the refence to a tryrannical government.  It took me a while to decode what he meant.
And it was nothing at all compared to what I observe every day from my protected perch.
Over reaching? Ham handed?  Inexperienced? Even the Dutch goverment blew it badly when it comes down to it.
But again, my brain had to spend time decoding just what that meant.
And it affected my apppreciation of the rest of the talk.

Your post is very thought-provoking.  Your perspective is very correct.  Other places have instances of tyranny which are much more severe.

But lesser tyranny is still tyranny, in spite of the fact that MANY greater examples of tyranny still exist in the world.

The best way to stop tyranny is to identify it, and deal with it while it is still "deal-with-able."

The entire discussion has been illuminating for me.  I have accepted small instances of actual tyranny for decades because I was not affected by them, and somewhat approved of the "ends" that those instances produced.  Gratefully, there are peaceful ways to deal with these things still.  The window may be closing, but it is still open enough if we wake up.

I listened to Mirkwood's talk today via zoom.  How cool that I could do that.

I couldn't help being somewhat affected by the part where he talked about President Hinckley's talk regarding his vision of the 7 fat years and the 7 lean years.  I remember that talk like it was yesterday, and it was more than 20 years ago!  Wow!

Since that talk, we have gone through several "boom and bust" cycles since he gave that talk.  And I AM STILL NOT PROPERLY PREPARED!

We received a new stake president today.  Our outgoing stake president reminded us that eight years ago, he had shared with us a dream he had that during his tenure we would experience a "shelves empty" situation.

We experienced that.  And I was feeling so guilty about not giving this wonderful giant of a man the proper creedence.  He reminded us that President Nelson has told us we will not survive spiritually during the coming challenges unless we learn how to hear and heed The Spirit.  I am so grateful of that reminder from a great, wonderful, humble servant of The Lord.

We've been given the "get your house in order, spiritually and physically" message over many instances from many quarters.  I really just need to put this line on my front door so I remember to think about that every day.  Because mine is so NOT.   :)
