we become part of the singular Body of Christ

Although we say, "Body". The body is also a sum of parts. Something Christ noted in His, "plucking out" offending eyes and "cutting off" offending hands, comments.

The Body is Christ - is far from a singular thing.
Don't ask me, I only live here.

There isn't a contradiction of a single body having a multitude of essential parts, and the idea being that the Spirit is an additional unifying influence helping all of those parts to better work together for an elevated united purpose. "But now are they many members, yet but one body."

The Body of Christ is made up of parts working to awake and reconcile themselves as being active and essential Christs. I don't think we need to see the idea that the eyes and hands that are set to the side or plucked out are forever gone, but they may be temporarily actively disrupting unity, might be sick and need specific attention without corroding the whole, and in time will be restored and made whole as part of The Body as it is Resurrected as One.

I don't think those who had to amputate a toe for gangrene feel they are going to be ultimately toeless in the Resurrection. They'll welcome back that toe that at one point might have been actively working to kill them.

[I want to make clear I'm not making any metaphysical claims here - there's a conceptual allegory that, like almost anything, can be broken if you go too hard into it. Sort of how there's not a single unified description of How The Atonement Works, although there's MANY examples and attempts to explain what the effects of the Atonement Feels Like.]
