Squirrel
« on: February 22, 2020, 06:17:20 pm »
I have a cheeky squirrel who lives by my front door who is getting quite above himself. I live in a small townhouse with a front path that runs along my garage. In between the garage and my front path is a narrow garden with vines that grow up the garage wall. In this narrow garden in the vines lives a chubby squirrel. Squirrel clearly considers the garden to be his domain and makes squeaky chirping noises at me when I walk up my front path. Seriously considering major pruning of garden vines this summer!

Last winter, in the same spot, I had a duck. I did not believe my neighbor when she claimed it was there because the spot is so small but she took me to the nest and showed me an egg. So yeah.

Reluctant to be inhospitable to current tenant, the fat squirrel, but he is loud and rudely offensive at times. Especially in the evening. Squirrel has been seen fighting with other similarity fat squirrels.

Squirrel is lowering the tone of the neighborhood!

Try putting down a path of peanuts or some other treat that your squirrel likes, to the hills behind the Cabin. If you do it a few times, the squirrel may relocate. Make the trail way up into the hills, not right to the Cabin, or else it will become a nuisance there.  ::)

Agreed. Mrs. Squirrel has taken up residency there because she found food and a safe place to build her drey. However, she may or may not have babies hidden up in there, which will potentially complicate the relocation.

I had a momma squirrel  build her drey in the hollow vertical post of my balcony, and she had two litters a year every year we lived there. Neighbors were leaving food out so she felt no reason to relocate. The second year, in the autumn after her second litter grew up enough to leave, I asked the landlord to have the holes filled in so she couldn't get back into it, because they were traumatizing my cats.  Sneaky momma found a spot to dig a new hole in another spot in the wood and spent the winter cleaning out enough of the expanding foam that Maintenance used so she could whelp again in the same drey in the spring.
