Cabin 2.0
« on: February 20, 2020, 09:52:25 pm »
Wow!  Iíve been busy today.  I found a prime locale to build a cabin with a wrap-around porch.  Itís in a clearing with a small body of water nearby, where at the right times of year, the frogs will croak and add to the night music.  There are mountains and trails, and bats still come out at night.  The kitchen is large, with a spacious refrigerator to keep all our lovely victuals to share with one another.

And, like the original Cabin of Old Nauvoo, I bring a tribal Turkish carpet from home.  The crosses represent Christianity, the sequence of five dots in the outer border represent the Five Pillars of Islam.  Together, they symbolize living in harmony.  There is also a scorpion motif in the blue border.  It is said a scorpion will not cross its image.  It means protection.  May it serve us well.

Thanks for finding us a new cabin, Crowgirl. And what a lovely carpet! I love the symbolism.

I've put chocolate doughnuts on the counter for us to have. Help yourselves.

Meanwhile, I'm going to relax in an easy chair under an afghan. I'm willing to bet the critters will find me in short order and join me for a nap. :)

I've just put a couple of six packs of Irn Bru in the fridge. Help yourself. However, if you don't know what it is, leave it be - it's really just for me and Scruffydog, who will appreciate it being there.

I had to look it up, Andrew.  I like that itís in the fridge for your and Scruffyís visits.

Iíll put some Spezi in next to it.  I think Roper knows what that is  ;D.

Indeed I do. I miss Spezi! I've tried to make it with Pepsi and Orange Fanta, but it doesn't have the same deliciousness that I remember from Germany.

I just read something about using Pellegrino Aranciata instead of Fanta.  Iíll be trying that.

I've added a set of three heavy aluminum calderas in the kitchen. I just used them to bake a velvety-textured bread pudding (my Puerto Rican Mom's recipe). Try a slice if you wish. There is also some cinnamon hot chocolate to go with it.

How deep and large is the pond? Does it freeze over during cold snaps? Does it freeze thick enough to skate on it?

I'm adding some Sri Lankan ginger beer (it's not alcoholic at all - it's a soda like ginger ale but with way more bite) to the beverages section. Elephant Brand Ginger Beer is our favourite.

Yes, and yes.  And what a lovely idea, kazbert.  Letís add one of those shelving units for shoes to keep our ice skates.

I brought Punkin here to see the new Cabin, & she is having a lot of trouble adjusting. She keeps going back to where the old Cabin was, digging & scratching around & playing with the bats & raccoons over there.

Ivie & Dreyfuss are her special pals & they won't leave her to come here. I'm still having trouble getting some of the other pets rounded up & think some of them may be confused. although Hound & Annabelle will be happy wherever they have food & a warm bed.

Please be patient with Punkin.

Sorry, Punkin is being stubborn about moving over from the old Cabin site, & her BFFs Ivie & Dreyfuss won't desert her to come here. And it appears that some of the other critters have been sneaking up there to keep them company. It's great that our pets are so loyal to each other, but it's work for me. I've been running back & forth to check on them & bring food, & keep at least a few small banked coals going in the old stone firepit for a bit of warmth.

I think Punkin is wondering about some of the gifts she's given us, like the original portable firepit that we kept on the Porch, the Adirondack chairs, forest motif dinnerware, the big food dehydrator, & the fleece bathrobes with bear designs that she gave the Incabitants. They have sentimental value for her. If anyone's seen any of these at Cabin II, Punkin would be delighted & we might be able to use them as lures to get all the critters settled in better.

Meanwhile, let's play "I Spied." If you saw something UNUSUAL near the Cabin, or around town, just mention it, and we'll all try to top it. Real things that you spied with your eye, nothing fake or imaginary.

For example, today:

On the road just outside the Cabin, I spied a Plymouth (& it's still here).

Wait, what? The cabin and porch are not real?! You've just killed Santa Claus!

I enjoyed Spezi when I was stationed in Germany.  Actually, I had forgotten about it until CrowGirl's post reminded me.  Thanks, CG!
