I made a fruit salad & it's in the fridge, & a pot of chili on the back burner.  There's plenty for everyone. Don't give any to the pets, because they already had a taste.

Dessert is Nanaimo bars, thanks to Laurie.

The watermelon patch is going like gangbusters. Our melons are weighing in at an average of 25lbs each. Some are rich red flesh, others are pink, orange and yellow inside. I am going to leave a few here. Enjoy!

I have chocolate ice cream in the freezer - I made it, and it's goooood. Help yourselves.

Redd, I am so jealous of your melons, but thanks for leaving some here. *snarfs down a melon* My goodness they're delicious!

My oven broke a week and a half ago. This had me very very sad since I haven't had an oven very often the last five years or so, and I'm finally in the land of being able to get pretty much any ingredient I could hope for. It's theoretically going to get fixed tomorrow, so hallelujah!

So instead, in the last week, I've made ice cream (see the freezer), blueberry panna cotta, and chocolate pudding. Gee, I seem to be a bit of an overachiever here. Once the oven is fixed, I can start making bread again. I can also finally get rye flour here so I can make some rye bread.

We went to a different grocery store yesterday. We go early to avoid crowds and people - we tend to go pretty much right when the store opens. While the other store we've visited had decent selection, this one had even more, and by decent, I mean way better selection than I've seen since I left Canada, although Dubai is a close second. It was very Indian/other Asian-food friendly, so we got samosas and tandoori chicken burgers and jalapeno beef burgers, all of which I anticipate we'll enjoy. We were halfway through the store when we had to stop looking because we were already at our limit of what we could carry. Bonus: This store's products were either same price as the other cheap store or cheaper. And as a bonus, not just for this store, but all the grocery stores we've shopped at since arriving in Canada, they all have at least some halal meat. I had no idea that that was going to be this easy, and this store was better than the rest.

The bottom line is that we'll have no choice but to go back. Oh no! Poor poor me!

Oooh homemade ice cream. I really do need to dig out my maker and get the canister prepped now that I have a little space in the freezer.

Work and heat have been kicking my behind hard. I have another coworker out after being exposed to a COVID-positive acquaintance, she was getting tested today and will be working remotely for at least the rest of this week. Which, given that she's the owner's daughter and newly promoted to lab director, is probably code for "taking a vacation".  *rolls eyes*

I thought I was going to make some popcorn & watch a movie or two. As much time as we're all spending at home, there's lots of time for movies or reading, & I can exercise while I watch movies. But then I got drowsy. 🥱

Thank goodness for the Cabin (and Nauvoo in general). With just over one month left until the American election (and a few weeks after that for the losers to gripe), not to mention the BLM protests going on (one is scheduled for Albuquerque this week) I am going to indulge in the relaxing vibes here.

Hick and I had to pull in the rest of the garden due to cold weather. I am not too happy about the Hatch chile crop this year. We only bought 2 cases and ate both of them. I am debating on getting 30lbs more just to make reistas so I will have red chile later. I just finished putting up 32  quarts of peaches.

  Speaking about pulling the garden, I am leaving tomatoes, asparagus and (of course) watermelon here so help yourselves.

Many of the See's Candies stores are open now, so we have a big variety to pick from.

Our candy budget is $100 through October, so choose carefully & don't be greedy.  :P 🤣 I saved it from the fares, tolls, etc. that we haven't spent on outings for ourselves or the pets during the pandemic. I also bought some new toys & treats for them because (for the most part  ;)) they have not been a big pain since we've all been cooped up together.

Don't waste the See's candies, buy the Dollar Tree 2/a buck chocolate stars and also feed it to the 3 large poopy dogs next door!!! NAH, that is too cruel to the dogs. They can't help that their owners are too stupid to know that LARGE dogs need to run at least once a day and that city ordinance state to scoop even in your own  fenced rented yard.

Let's give the owners ex-lax, and other laxatives.

We have new people in our court. They have a little girl who is around 2-3 - so this Halloween, I am putting out a sign at the entrance to our steps and ramp that we don't do Trick or Treat. Knock on our door/Ring our doorbell and be prepared to be expected to wash dishes, vacuum the carpets, scrub the bathrooms!

And even if it wasn't, the See's is for us. The good stuff costs almost $25 a pound, & the critters will be happy with deluxe pet treats.

The air is a bit better today, so I'm going to go outside for awhile & see if I can breathe without dropping dead. I had been taking walks as relief from Covid Cabin Fever, but with the wildfires fouling the air, we don't have that now. I'm ready to quit looking at the walls, & Punkin wants to visit her coyote pals.  ::)
