Those are great albums too.  AFTK was the third one I purchased.  Xanadu is still one of my favorite songs.

OK - a confession. Although I had obviously heard of Rush, I had not one clue of any of their albums or singles.

However, I have now asked Alexa to play songs by Rush and whilst I wouldn't call myself a fan, I did listen to it for quite a while.

Nothing to report on my favourite album(s) though.
Don't ask me, I only live here.

Every time I run across this thread, it makes me smile.  I have no idea at all who Rush is /was, so I asked my hubby born in 1963....he has no idea either....were they only popular in the USA?

Anyway I stopped listening to rock about 1980 so I do not recognize MANY bands.

Rush was of a genre labeled "progressive rock" that was less "hard" rock (though definitely NOT pop) and more "thought rock" -- as in, they had deep, thoughtful lyrics (penned pretty much 100% by the great Neal Peart who was also their drummer). They were never super popular here, statistically (the highest chart topper they ever had was New World Man which hit #21 on the Billboard charts in 1982), but they had a significant and devoted following of their 50 year (!) career and had 24 gold, 14 platinum, and 3 multi-platinum albums. They were formed in 1968 but weren't really a cohesive unit until Peart joined the band in 1974, and toured and put out albums fairly continuously until Peart's brain cancer (along with Geddy Lee's and Alex Lifeson's age) prompted them to call it quits early 2018. They are Canada based, and were inducted to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 2013.

I highly recommend at least reading some of their lyrics, if not finding some of their music online and giving it a listen.

FYI, those with access to Sirius XM, they have designated channel 717 (temporarily) to a Rush channel in honor of Neal Peart. 100% Rush music, all the time, for a certain # of days (I don't know how many).

A sampling of their music.
And a most excellent sample it is!

I'll add one:

I think "Red Barchetta" really showcases Peart's ability to create pictures with song lyrics. And there are a whole lot of poetic conventions in there as well. Then, Lifeson and Lee fill in the story with lush instrumentation, and you come away from the song feeling like you just watched an extended action sequence of a dystopian movie.

Once you finish with that link, you should go buy Moving Pictures and listen to it all the time.  It will make you happy.  :)

If you have Amazon Prime, then you have Prime Music. Most of Rush's albums are there, including "Moving Pictures." Happy Happy Joy Joy!

What a time to let Sirius expire!

My Sirius has been off for a few years. But this week I got an offer for $60 for a year with a free Echo Dot and i was like, "well, I DO like it for music discovery" and re-upped just in time to find the channel.
