ERA movement
« on: December 15, 2019, 02:18:21 pm »
I came accross this. I clearly don't understand the context, not living in the US, so what exactly is the problem with this thing?

I was a big supporter of the original ERA movement in the 1970's, up until the moment Church leaders said no.    With 30+ years hindsight I understand now in a way I didn't then how much damage such legislation can do to the family that the Church and the Lord is trying hard to preserve.   We've seen the family significantly diminish as a stabilizing influence in our country and around the world in just that short time.

I don't think the church (or doctrines of the restored Church of Jesus Christ) has any problem with the idea that men and women should have equal individual opportunity or equal pay for equal work, or even equitable number of bathrooms in a public building (which means more for women who need longer dwell times).   I think it and we have every reason to believe that what sounds like it might be good policy will be distorted and misused by those who either intend to destroy families or who don't know that will be the result of whatever changes they make.
