Ben Spackman's Fair Mormon presentation
« on: September 27, 2019, 08:59:10 am »
It's been a while since Ben, aka The Monk, has posted here, but I have been following his personal web page.  He recently presented at a Fair Mormon conference on the revelatory process.  Here is the link.  Goos stuff.

I love Ben's stuff And this presentation is no exception. In fact, I think it gets to the heart of one of the key things to understand about scripture and revelation. HIGHLY recommend checking out the full presentation.

From Monk's article: "Ultimately, the qualifying characteristic of revelation is not a complete lack of human aspects, but the guiding hand of the divine with that humanity, in a joint, composite, iterative and progressive process, which we call the Restoration." I think the organizational foundation of the Quorum of 12 Apostles and the procedural policy of the Law of Common Consent supports this understanding of revelation. If our prophet is "clear glass," who merely transmits the will of God in perfect purity, then our prophet is essentially a monarch who can lead the Lord's Kingdom by issuing decrees. But, the Kingdom is not set up that way.
