Instead of just a single-topic thread, maybe this should be a threat for sports news in general. It doesnt seem to be a huge conversational area here, but people might still want to talk about their favorite sports, the Olympics, cheating scandals ::) , flopping ::) , sandbagging  ::) , or whatever.

So, for today's sports headline ... Guess who’s going to the Golden State Warriors? (for a trial run anyway). They can use any help they can get, with two superstar MVPs on the shelf for who knows how long (& still with the team for who knows how long, if they become free agents).

Well, that didn't last long. Maybe being a superstar overseas is better than being a bench player in the U.S.

In other sports news, the Olympics will be here again before we can blink, & five new sports have been approved for the Tokyo games: baseball/softball, karate, skateboard, sports climbing, & surfing. One of those is the official sport of two U.S. states.  8)

One of the classiest members of the Golden State Warriors “dynasty” has retired after a career that was almost cut off before it even got going. Shaun Livingston was a schoolboy star who signed with the NBA right out of HS & was expected to have a fabulous career. But not long after, he literally totaled his knee – busted up or dislocated everything imaginable. At first, the doctors weren’t sure they could save the leg – let alone whether he'd ever play again. It took him a couple of years to rehab, but he worked his way back to active duty, played with several teams, & finally found a home with the Warriors.

He was a big part of all the championships & sort of an elder statesman on the team. He was also active in community service, & he donated $1,000,000 to his grade school in Peoria IL for a new gym & auditorium. He was always going back to Peoria to do charity work or give basketball clinics for kids. You never heard a breath of scandal about him, whether it be nightclub brawls, chasing women, doing drugs, etc.

Happy retirement, Shaun Livingston  :) (but he could end up in the Warriors' front-office)

First, the good news (well, for some) - the big World Series favorites, the Houston Astros, got up-ended by the Washington Nationals. That's like Toronto beating the Warriors for the last NBA championship.

Speaking of which - the "new" Warriors are not a team you'll recognize anymore. The loss to Toronto already had people talking about the end of the dynasty. Those who follow sports know that Kevin Durant, Shaun Livingston, & Andre Iguodala are gone, & Klay Thompson is recovering from an ACL injury in the Toronto finals & will not play for much or all of this season. But now Stephen Curry has gone down lame, with a broken hand in the 4th game of the season that will keep him out for a couple months.

If any other NBA teams want to play vulture, now is the time!

Something terrible is happening at Santa Anita Racetrack in Southern California, where horses are literally dropping dead left & right. Dozens of horses have died in the last couple of years – 36 since last December & 4 just this month. For anyone who loves animals, this is an awful state of affairs, & it makes one wonder how effective reforms & regulatory oversight in animal sports really are.

Don't ask me, I only live here.
