The New Testament - for LDS
« on: December 07, 2018, 09:15:32 pm »
Has anyone read The New Testament for LDS by Thomas Wayment?  Any reviews?  I'm thinking about picking it up.

I don't think it's actually out yet, but I've read a few reviews. His translation and commentary sounds promising.

Either way, I HIGHLY recommend everyone getting another translation apart from KJV to supplement your reading next year. NRSV and N.T. Wright's Kingdom New Testament are very good options.

One of our Nauvoodles who doesn't post here much, but is very active on Facebook recommends it highly.  His name is Ben Spackman.  He has a FB page called Benjamin the Scribe.

(Grunt, did you know Nauvoo has a private FB group?) One of the FB Admins can give you more info.

PG, thanks for bringing that up. I've created a post with instructions on what to do. It's now a pinned post in General Discussion.

My Dad, who is LDS and a Free Mason, loves the NET version/edition. https://netbible.org/bible/Genesis+1

It's the one he uses the most for study. I have barely enough time to read what I have in Gospel Library, without trying to shoehorn time for other translations.
Don't ask me, I only live here.

I'm a Freemason as well.

I tend to use the NRSV for general reading/edification. If I'm teaching a lesson, when I'm preparing my final notes, I pull out the KJV for on-the-same-page class use, unless a verse in the KJV /really/ misses the point, and another translation makes the idea/principle significantly clearer, and I'll preface reading that verse with such an explanation.

So for me, it's the KJV I'm shoehorning in!  ;)
