Grammarly / copywriter

Are writers giving away their copywriter to Grammarly? The author of this piece warning against Grammerly seems to think so. http://sheownsit.com/may-not-enjoy-grammar-worth-giving-away-content-legallysavvysbo/

According to the terms of service with Grammarly, the writer retains the right of ownership. I am confused by her reaction - of course, she is a lawyer and we are not.

I assume you mean copyright.  The only thing I think MAY be a potential problem is when you use some online services like that, they sometimes have copies of what you checked in their database, which can create issues (especially if they get hacked).  But for the most part I am not very paranoid about it.

That being said, I don't use Grammarly.  I follow them on Facebook because they are funny and often have good writing tips, but I found ProWritingAid to be a little more helpful because I can download it and use it locally (it even works with Scrivener) and it finds things like cliches that I've let slip into my writing (which I really struggle with).  I haven't used it much--I consider that level of editing near the end, and I haven't had anything I want to publish reach that stage yet.

That is so funny. I guess I should reread to see how spell check has changed what I write (or what I actually type.! Yes, I meant copyright.

My husband actually contacted Grammarly and they stated that no, they do not claim ownership of the the author's intellectual property.
