Nephi is one of those places I drive through and I think it is a place I could live in.

We bought a house in Santaquin.  We've moved in and are still in the unpacking mode. I absolutely love being here.  I love the mountains, the cooler weather, our house, our ward, and my job.  Our kids have made good friends in school and at church.

In other news, my step father died Monday.  He had been quite ill for a couple of years.  He had a pretty massive stroke on Saturday, went to the ICU, and never recovered. This is the second time I've lost my dad.  My birth dad died when I was in my twenties.  Now my step dad, whom I have called "Dad" for 24 years, is gone.  My folks are in St. George, which is only three hours from where I live now.  I can't imagine what it would be like if we still lived in TX. I'm convinced this was part of the inspiration for us to move here two months ago. I think it would have left my mom devastated to go through this alone.

When any of y'all are this way, please let me now.  We would love to have dinner with you!

Condolences to you, your family and especially your mom.  It's amazing how Heavenly Father's timing is so perfect.  I'm so glad you heeded the promptings to move.

I'm sorry to hear about your family's loss, Roper. You will all be in my prayers for comfort.

Glad to hear you are settled in & ready to receive Nauvoodle guests.  :)  I have been through Santaquin a time or two but don't know much about it, but I do like the Nephi, Moroni, Mt. Nebo scenic drive area. It also seems like the Lord's hand was in your decision to move when you did, so you could be near your parents when they needed you. Blessings to all of you.

Please accept our deep sympathies from Jade House.  Both or my parents are now gone, and last week I sealed them for eternity. Tomorrow if all goes well, I will be sealed to them.

I hope your own covenants and ordinances bring you solace and strength.

It's hard stuff.  Go with God, my lovelly brother.

I'm sorry for your loss, Roper.  I am so, so glad you are there, though, and settled in enough that you could have some space to deal with the loss.  What an incredible blessing.
I am down in Utah occasionally, I will try to go a little further south one of these days to give you a holler. :)

We had the funeral and the burial yesterday.  In a way, it's good to have that closure.

It's been raining all weekend. There's snow above 9000 ft.  All the surrounding mountaintops are white.  They're really beautiful, especially when the clouds linger in the basins between the peaks.  It looks like Tolkien's "Misty Mountains."

Utah vs. Texas: In Texas, whenever I had training, there were always cookies and a choice of sweet tea or unsweet tea. I drank water. In Utah, whenever I have training, there are cookies and a choice of regular milk or chocolate milk. I still drink water.

It started snowing at about 2:00 on Friday afternoon.  As soon as the kids got home from school, they grabbed gloves and went outside.
