President Monson
« on: October 02, 2016, 08:30:27 pm »
I watched today with a group of friends, & one thing that got everyone's attention was that President Monson was not the concluding speaker in the last session. He always has been before, as has every other President of the Church that we recalled. It's regular practice for the presiding leader at any meeting to be the final speaker unless he/she had assigned that to someone else. President Monson has seemed quite frail, so he will certainly be in everyone's prayers for his health & well being.

Watching him speak last in the Priesthood session was sad, he was not his usual happy/jolly self. His talk was short, to the point, but shorter than normal. He looked very frail.

Pres. Monson was not the concluding speaker six months ago; Elder Holland was.  Since he had that near-collapse, he has been the first speaker on Sunday morning, and those have been very brief.

I don't recall Presidents Benson and Kimball speaking last towards the end when their health failed them, but I could be wrong.  I'll have to check that.

Yes, he looks frail, and he's been slurring his words (or he just has a crummy set of teeth) for several years now.

I pray that he will only be sustained for as long as the Lord needs him here.  That may sound uncaring and cynical, but I have a testimony of prayer and fasting.  I'm in no hurry for President Nelson, but I don't want President Monson kept from heavenly responsibility whilst trapped in a failing body.  I've watched two prophets go through that already.

He has done remarkably well for a diabetic man of his age. I don't like to get into the prediction of a prophet's mortality game. He did seem more worn this time.

I hadnít recalled about the last conference, nor did any of my friends with whom I watched todayís sessions. I did remember that over the past couple of conferences, he has spoken fewer times and more briefly.

However long the Lord keeps him here with us, I think He will be satisfied that President Monson did what he was sent here to do.

If I recall correctly, President Benson didn't speak at ALL for the last few YEARS of his tenure as prophet.  His health didn't allow it.

Yep, 6 months ago, Pres. Monson looked like someone actively involved in the dying process.  He looked much better this time around, and he even cracked a joke in one talk.  It is obvious that age is getting to him, but it hasn't got him yet.  Bless the man.
