Redd, I'm sorry to know what a challenging year you've had. I had wondered about you & hoped you were doing well. Punkin & Dreyfuss are on the way over now to visit you with a pumpkin pie (her idea, she named it after herself).

Redd, I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope you can recover from your accidents quickly, or at least as much as possible.

The husband and I are back in France. We spent a month in Dubai with his family, and there was a LOT of family there. Some came out for a visit while others live in the area. We're still recovering from the travel - or, rather, I'm still recovering from the travel. It's how these things go.

This year is so much better, I just wanted all to know why I was away.

I  have so much catch up to do with everyone, I can't wait!   ;D

Don't mind me. I am going to raid the kitchen for cake.  I have not had cake in forever.  (rummages in fridge, cupboards etc)  AhHa!  I hit paydirt:  Strawberry cake with strawberry icing and strawberry filling and a big fat chocolate covered strawberry on top!

(goes to the pond in the back yard to eat cake and converse with the whale.)

Redd, I was in a chocolate crave during Thanksgiving and Christmas. I rummaged in my long-term storage cupboard and found a re-packaged brownie mix from 2012. Mixed it up. Tolerated the stomach growling as a result of the delirious smell of chocolate emanating from the kitchen. The timer went off and I at least remember to don the oven mitts to remove the pan. It looked rather flat, but chocolate brownies are chocolate at its best.

Cut into it and took a bite. ~ ~ ~ * * drum roll * * ~ ~ ~ B L A H it was the worst tasting c*&p in the world! I tossed it along with it's two uncooked brothers in the OUTDOOR trash.

Found a chocolate cake mix in the cupboard - dated 2009, tossed that one too! Waaaa. Me and chocolate are not meant to be.

Also the other moral to this story, brownie & cake mixes have a rather short shelf life. Now the Marie Callandar corn bread envelope mixes do have a longer shelf life. Mixed one up that was dated 2011 and it was good. Hubby loves it with honey, me I love it doused in either jam or maple syrup.

As for strawberries, I love fresh ones, not artificial flavored strawberry stuff. Grandma would make rhubarb and strawberry pie, deep dish cobbler and jams. We had quite a rhubarb patch alongside the house, so she would mix them with nearly any fruit that came our way. A small foot path above the rhubarb were currents and blueberries. If she went blackberry picking with me, I would pick the currents and blueberries for her (us).

It's already gone? Wow, that was fast! No worries, I'll make more. It'll be there in another hour or two with ganache topping.

If there is enough rock salt and ice left over, I sure could use some fresh peach ice cream.... oh I guess maybe you young folks use electricity.  We churned our as a family...great memories, delicious ice cream!
