Drugs are wonderful!
« on: March 08, 2016, 07:35:10 pm »
I just want to thank our Jason and all the doctors who use use anesthesia for their patients.

I had day surgery this morning to repair an inguinal hernia. The last thing I remember was moving to the OR bed.  They tell me the surgery took about an hour, and that I slept for about 45 minutes in the recovery room.  They gave me a muscle relaxer and the initial anesthesia through the IV.  What amazing drugs for doctors and patients!  I don't remember a thing, and the doctors had a 100% compliant patient. I'm on Tramadol for a week because I'm allergic to codeine. It's really wonderful stuff, too.

The only thing is that I have to pee like a racehorse.  How may bags of saline did I go through?

One final thought.  For my uncoupled brothers and sisters: My heart goes out to you. Please don't take this the wrong way. I can't imagine how much harder something like that is if you ever have to do it alone.  May God always bless you with compassionate friends and faithful family members.

Hope you have a quick recovery, Roper.  Anesthesia is indeed a wonderful thing.  Follow your surgeon's advice and don't over-do it.  You want to make sure everything heals properly.

Roper, I had an outpatient procedure done 2 weeks ago and I felt so wonderful when I woke up from the anesthesia. In fact, I teased the nurse that I was surely in a spa and just waiting for a pedicure. I felt like I had a great nap!

Happy healing. And yes, I, too, am fortunate that I had my husband help me during recovery. But, my dad was there to help if needed and I had a very good friend offer to help as well. Wonderful friends can really enrich our lives. Makes me strive to become a better friend.

Gee, thanks Valjean  ::)  Yes, I had to get an EKG done as well.  Fortunately, I'm not quite so hairy.  ;)

It had been over 30 years since I had anesthesia.  The last time was to get my tonsils out before I went on a mission.  I remember getting a mask on my face and counting down from 100.  When I woke up, I was disoriented and everything was buzzing.

This time was different.  Like Beefie said, my experience was quite pleasant this time.

The pain after everything wears off, though... :o

I'm glad your experience was good.  Drugs kill the pain for me, but make me nauseous, dizzy, hard to wake up, etc.  However, I owe all my children and the use of my left arm to them.
