President Nelson's message for the world
« on: November 20, 2020, 01:57:04 pm »
I just watched President Nelson’s message about the cure for what ails the world & causes failing hearts. Coming from a heart surgeon, the cure is gratitude. He talked about trials that we all have, including his own with the loss of his first wife & two of his children, & being thankful for the time he had with them & for all the other blessings God has given him.

“Counting our blessings is far better than counting our problems.”

He said that science is diligently seeking a COVID vaccine, but there is no medical or surgical treatment for the other kind of failing hearts that are plaguing people. The cure for that is gratitude. He named a multitude of things we can be grateful for even in trying times.

He suggested two ways we can increase gratitude & help others heal: Use social media for the next 7 days as a “gratitude journal” to post what we are grateful for & why, & express gratitude to God through daily prayer. At the of his message, he gave a prayer for the world that was mostly about thanking God rather than about asking for things, which may be the reverse of most human prayers.

Here, he already has a blog entry about how this worldwide message came to be. You can still see the video, & there is also a written transcript.

We are a few days away from Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., & many people will not feel very thankful this year. I’m going to try to increase my gratitude & be thankful for even the "everyday" things God has given me, like waking up each day & being able to breathe, see, hear, & walk, because many people can’t. From there, the only limit to gratitude is what we put on it. And I’ll try not to ask Him for too much, which I already consciously try for, because like probably most people, I don’t make full use of what He has already given me.

I loved it how in about half an hour my facebook feed was full of #givethanks posts, mine included. And so much more this morning. I do feel more peace already.

I think we should continue if so much longer.

I am surprised how many people find fault with the initiative. one complaint being that one should be sensitive to others in posting thanks (like don't mention kids, because not everyone has them, neither a spouse for the same reasonetc) one that it is irritating how their feed is now full of these give thanks posts only because people do it because a (manipulative) leader has commanded them (members who've left the church).

Like - seriously.

so, don't give thanks, it just hurts and shows how stupid you are  ::)

Cook: agreed! I mean, I understand jealousy and pain, and I also understand some people are just bitter. But that's the problem with the whiners. If you are jealous, that's a YOU thing, and you would be much happier if you learned to be less that way. If you are bitter, that's a YOU thing, and you would be much happier if you learned to be less that way.
Whining about others expressing joy and thanks says everything about you, not about them, and it's not good. If you don't want to participate, fine, but golly gee whiz, what good do you think it does to step on those doing it?!

People sure like to give others power over themselves. "You make me feel..."

Verbally bullying is real. People really do intend to verbally attack and humiliate others, sometimes. That is 180 degrees out from someone expressing gratitude, and others getting offended because their experiences are different.
All grown-ups were once children...but only few of them remember it. ― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, "The Little Prince."
