Records Jeredites had

Ether 8:9.

What records is she referring to? Don't we often talk about this nation being destroyed because they did not have scriptures and the Nephites faring well for so long because they had the brass plates with them? Looks like that wasn't the reason after all if these people had records also...

Any knowledge?

The Maxwell Institute Study Edition of the BoM has this footnote for that verse: "Nothing further is known about this record, but see Ether 1:2-4".

A helpful insight also is that The Book of Ether as we have it is Joseph Smith's inspired translation of Moroni's re-telling and abridgment of Mosiah's Inspired Translation of Ether's Version of centuries of history.

Each layer will be adding language and connections likening it to their own experience. Mosiah had the Brass Plates and its history, and the Small Plates of Nephi in mind when he made his translation (possibly using the language of a form of Genesis as analogous to the beginning of Ether's record), Mormon had the full book of Mormon (Book of Lehi - Mormon) at hand and in mind when he was re-telling Mosiah's version of the Jaredite story, and likening it to the rise and fall of his own people.

Did they have records we don't know anything more about? It's possible. Was Moroni or Mosiah overlaying his own people's experience a little bit with an added detail to make the connection a bit more clear? Also possible. An ultimate point is records or no, if you don't seek to learn the lessons from history (from the good and the bad examples, and learning the complications of dividing the two), and don't have a connection to God's instruction, things don't tend to end well.

I totally agree.

I would easily imagine they also had some sort of records with them. It seems to be a thing they did when travelling far...

I think the idea that "they survived so well because they had the scriptures" is in a way a bit flawed. While I am sure it helped to remember commandments etc, I also think that God is very capable of giving revelation and people creating new documents when needed. And people then and now are very capable of choosing wrong when they have the scriptures, even when they read them regularly.

So the key to success or failure should not be pointed to having the records or not, but on choices people make on daily basis. Maybe the pattern of Jered not praying directly for guidance but askig his brother to do it is more of a key if they did not value or see importance in personal relationship with God but it was more of a religious structure to follow...
