COVID takes a temple president
« on: September 06, 2020, 03:04:38 am »
Sad news - the Birmingham Alabama temple president passed from COVID. He & his wife & son tested positive two weeks after the temple reopened in June for live sealings. We've read about the precautions put in place in all the temples that are starting to reopen, & either they were not enough to keep this family healthy or they got sick from some other source. :(  :'(

We are living in Alabama right now, and a HUGE portion of the population is highly cavalier about the virus.  This is sad, but unfortunately not terribly surprising.

I live in Utah county--the Mormon Mecca. It's saddening how many people are outright defiant of the Governor's and State Health Department orders regarding face coverings and gatherings. And they're so proud of their defiance-- posting videos of themselves breaking the law. I'll get to see some of  them at church next week. And, every week, I get a couple of more form letters from parents informing me of their constitutional right to let their children not wear a mask in school. I have to reply that it's mandatory for public schools, and then listen to another tirade about lawsuits. *Sigh*

Have you asked those individuals precisely which article or ammendment in the constitution guarantees rhe right to not wear a protective mask? Hmm, I wonder it it the same article that says states can't pass seat belt, helmet and food safety laws?

I really don't think the masks are making that much of a difference.

I think that a business, school, library, facility, etc. has the right to tell me I have to wear a mask if I want to enter the premises.

Around 80% of the people in a population have to wear the masks regularly for them to seriously impact the infection rate. That isn't remotely happening, at least not in the Mountain West. In the areas where compliance rates are higher, they are making a difference.
