Snowbirds: Crash of acrobatic plane
« on: May 19, 2020, 09:09:01 am »
Very sad. One of Canada’s acrobatic planes crashed. A young woman was killed. An older plane. My country has failed in our duty of care. Tears 😭

It is very sad. But why would you say your nation failed? This was an accident. Accidents are tragedies and painful but it’s not a case of the nation failing their duty.

The airplanes are 50 years old. They were all retired from military service 20 years ago. I can understand why people would think their government had failed by keeping the demonstration team flying planes way past their service life. The F-16s flown by the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels' F-18s are getting old, too.

With proper maintenance, planes can stay airworthy for several decades.  But accidents do happen.
